MICHAEL DONOHOE

Michael was born in County Kilkenny in the south east of Ireland. Growing up he was surrounded by both thoroughbreds and sport horses.  His family are all very involved in the equine industry, owning and running Europe’s largest sport horse auction house, Goresbridge Equine Sales. He studied at the famous sporting college of  Saint Kieran’s in Kilkenny and then went on to complete a Higher National Diploma in Equine Science in Writtle College, England. During his diploma course he spent a year’s work experience in one of Ireland’s top stud farms, Ballylinch Stud.

After finishing his studies, Michael was recruited to work in the world famous Coolmore Stud in Ireland. He spent four years with Coolmore in Ireland and a year with Coolmore USA, in Kentucky. In 2003 Michael joined the Curragh Bloodstock Agency (CBA) and in 2005 the CBA joined forces with the BBA Ireland to form Europe’s and probably the world’s largest bloodstock agency. Michael attends all the major bloodstock sales in Europe and the USA. He specialises in overseas business with special links with all the major emerging thoroughbred markets. Michael was one of the first bloodstock consultants to export thoroughbred horses from Europe to mainland China. He also attends the major race meetings world-wide. He enjoys a very good working relationship with many leading race horse trainers in Europe and has had numerous successes at the top level and at the top race meetings.
Along with sourcing top class thoroughbreds Michael also offers racing and stud management and consultancy advice on all aspects of the equine industry.
